The following year he enrolled in Canadian Union College to get a degree in biology with his eye set on becoming a physician. Pre-med was short-lived, however, after a visit to the hospital. The experience was strong enough to want him to change his major to dentistry. Most boys want to be firemen, policemen, etc. or follow in the footsteps of their fathers. So, he never grew up wanting to be a dentist; it just happened! However, all things came together, and in the fall of 1989 was accepted to the dental program at Loma Linda University School of Dentistry (LLU).
Scott was thrilled to be accepted; it was a great honor! The next hurdle was the financing. It cost $25,000 a year just in tuition alone. Fortunately, Scott had worked very hard during the summers working at the Jacobsen sawmill, and the owner had noticed. Because of this relationship, Harold Jacobsen loaned young Scott the money to go to LLU! What a godsend that was! If it had not been for Harold Jacobsen, Scott would not have been able to go to that school. Four years later, he graduated with the title Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS).
Driving with all he owned in an old pick-up, two Rottweilers, and $1800 to his name, he followed the American dream, which led him to Calhoun, Georgia. What a great decision that was! Calhoun had been a great place to have a large thriving dental practice! The community of Calhoun was so supportive! Along the way, Dr. Parmiter built a gym, Firehouse Gym with his business partner. He also built a Registered Hereford Farm, Chinook Farms.
After deciding to sell his Calhoun practice to his Associate in 2014, Dr. Parmiter continued to work there for another four years. During that time, he wrote his first book and continued to enjoy a very physical lifestyle. Over the years, he has competed in state-level bodybuilding competitions, Mountain Snowmobiling back in his native Canada, extreme moto-cross (He actually broke his leg when jumping a 40’ double and came up short) and Tactical games.
In June of 2018, he heard about a small practice in Rome for sale and decided he was too young to retire. Dr. Parmiter purchased a wonderful little practice from Dr. Michael Blackmon and has enjoyed getting to know the patients here. He looks forward to several more years of providing excellent dental care to the caring patients he has encountered here.
